The GLC Plaza

Graduate School Dean Karen DePauw addresses the crowd at the dedication of the Graduate Life Center plaza and fountain.

GLC Plaza fountain

Sponsored by the Class of 1959, the Class of 2009, the Parents' Fund, and the Graduate School, the Graduate Life Center Plaza was constructed in early fall 2009 in the area between the Graduate Life Center and the Newman Library. The GLC Plaza serves an outdoor gathering place and cultural hub for graduate students and the campus community, with spaces designed to accommodate outdoor performances.

The Paver Project

The Graduate School invited graduate students, graduate student groups, graduate alumni, departments, and other supporters of graduate education to purchase engraved pavers to be installed in the Plaza. The paver project pays tribute to and chronicles the history of graduate education at Virginia Tech through the stories of individuals and organizations.

Pavers may contain a short reference, statement, or creative expression. Each paver is accompanied by a longer explanation or story, making the connection to graduate education and creating a narrative from the moments in time experienced by the many partners in graduate education.

Interested in reserving the Plaza for an event?
